FedEx Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

What are the benefits of EDI?
EDI is a technology that allows organizations to exchange information electronically and process electronic transactions. It is ideal for high-volume shippers with established accounts-payable systems and multiple shipping locations that wish to enhance and simplify their invoicing process:

  • EDI can help you increase efficiency while reducing errors and operating costs.
  • EDI also helps FedEx deliver top-quality service that takes advantage of advanced information-management technology.
  • With EDI, you will no longer receive paper invoices.*

Who should use EDI?
Large companies with established accounts payable procedures can benefit by integrating FedEx invoice data via electronic methods. Large companies with multiple shipping locations can also enhance and simplify their invoicing process with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

How does EDI work?
EDI handles all FedEx invoicing data for domestic and international shipping electronically. The data integrates with your accounts payable systems, eliminating paperwork. You can consolidate invoices for all your shipping locations whether you ship using FedEx Ship Manager™, air waybills or other FedEx shipping solutions.

What are the available EDI formats?
Three formats for FedEx EDI are available:

  • CSV format for Excel (comma-separated-values).
  • The '250' proprietary format (250-byte records).
  • The 4060 version of the EDI X12 standard (Version 4010 is an alternative format).

All formats require support from your IT department.
